Tell us about yourself
Hii lovely people, my name is Natalie Fordwor. I am 23 oops 24 years old (I legit believe I am 23, oh well, my birth certificate tells it all. I have to accept that I am 24 turning 25 next year..tehehe)
What do you do for a living?
What do I do for a living? Hmm…how I wish I could sum it up in one word. Most people can say lawyer, accountant, artist etc… I have to take a deep breath before I launch into my explanation. Here goes…I work at the Kokrobitey Institute. It is an NGO centered around, education, art and recycling. Want to see the coolest recycled bags? Come visit the Institute (Our website is currently being re-vamped.) *No, we are not like Trashy Bags…and we love for people to order in bulk* We also create educational resources and games out of recycled materials. Okay, I just shamelessly advertised the company. I hope Sharms does not charge me for this.
Are you relaxed or natural?
I am a naturalista (I have learned to embrace that word.) I decided to go natural 2 years ago (April 2012) and braved the big chop in November that year. My permed hair was not doing so well #PermedHairAbr3 I was quite nervous about the decision, because for as long as I can remember, I have had permed hair (Nanny, kinda sorta put some cream in my hair when I was a toddler. I would scream when it was time to get my hair done, so I guess it was either the creamy stuff or rock the bald look. My mama was upset about her making such a decision when she was at work, but I think she was secretly grateful that the hair had been tamed lol.) Honestly, I prayed. Yes, I prayed that the hair will turn out well, and that I would not regret the decision. Gloray. #HeIsFaithful
What do I love about your hair?
I love how thick it is, and it doesn’t seem to be enemies with humidity. Though it does shrink, the shrinkage is not terrible. One thing that bothers me slightly, my hair drinks, gobbles up moisture and oil.
Whats your favourite protective hairstyle/your hair regimen?
Ideal protective style of all time = big braids. In the year, hair is wild and free for about 2-3months, then braids for the next 2months…repeat cycle. If don’t have braids on, one protective style I like to do is, two big cane rolls in front, with a side bun. I usually keep this hairstyle for about a week, sometimes 2 weeks (don’t touch it, don’t think about it. Scarf at night.) When its out, I braid it in 4 plaits before sleeping.
What’s your favourite makeup/hair product?
Favourite make-up product is bareMinerals. For hair products, I will say SheaMoisture. Nothing can replace Shea butter, coconut oil and water though. Also love the concoctions Debbie Yeboah makes for me, sealed in with Moringa oil made by Kwami Williams. Watch out for their products.
Any special tips/tricks for us?
Advice: Try not to handle the hair too much. Avoid combs if you can. Detangle with hands. Big braids do wonders. Personally, I think that blow drying the hair at least once every two months keeps the bad tangles away (I know some naturalistas are anti-heat, but using it wisely helps.)
